Just before 4 p.m. on Sunday, Skippack Fire Company was dispatched to a tree fire that was reportedly caused by a lightning strike on Saturday. Firefighters arrived to find the tree burning high above the ground, making it difficult to extinguish the fire safely. Skippack Township called in a professional tree company to cut down the tree and allow firefighters to fully put out the fire.
Firefighters managed traffic and temporarily closed Collegeville Road during the operation. Crews returned to their station a little over two hours later.
