By Assistant Chief Keith Grierson
May 20, 2020

The Skippack Fire Company was dispatched to a single vehicle crash early Tuesday morning in the 1100 block of Bridge Road (RT113). The call for service reported a truck into a house at 07:33, with unknown injuries. Battalion 86 arrived on scene at 07:35 and requested fire police from Station 66 (Perkiomen Township Fire Company) to shut down Creamery and Bridge Road. Chief 86 arrived on scene at 07:39 and request fire police from Station 89 (Harleysville Community Fire Company) to shut down Mensch Road and Bridge Road as well as PECO to secure power to the house and for a support pole down due to the crash. The truck struck the pole on the side of the road, some boulders and then ended up crashing into a house before coming to a rest. During the crash the fuel tank on the truck was compromised causing a diesel fuel leak on scene also.

Additional Skippack Fire Company units on the assignment included; Lieutenant 86, Squad (with the Captain), Special Service, Tanker and the Utility (with the Assistant). Crews assisted Skippack Emergency Medical Services with patient evaluations. SEMS secured refusals from the driver of the truck and a resident of the home. A SEMS unit stood-by for the duration of the truck removal. SFC crews worked to secure the fuel leak and ensure the structural integrity of the house.

An extended removal process took place of the vehicle, with the truck impinged heavily into the structure, the porch roof into the cab of the truck, boulders underneath and around the truck, as well as the fuel leak. Once the truck was removed from the house, additional work took place to safely secure and tow the vehicle from the scene.

The Pennsylvania State Police operated and assisted on scene and are handling the crash investigation report. Moyer Indoor / Outdoor responded to assist with structural integrity evaluations, board up and hazard removal. Representatives from the DEP were also on scene. The roadway was re-opened to traffic at 11:19 as all Skippack Fire/Rescue and EMS crews and 86 and 89 fire police returned to their stations.
