Squad 86 was dispatched to a structure fire at Republic Services in Upper Merion around 3:00 pm on Wednesday to support the Eastern LDH (large diameter hose) Strike Force. The fire at the waste transfer facility required more water than one water system was able to supply so the LDH was deployed to move large amounts of water from a hydrant on another water system over a mile away. Squad 86 was the last truck in line and initially supplied water to Quint 27 (Norristown), its own deck gun and a BlitzFire monitor to put high volumes of water on the fire. Later on the supply line was moved from Quint 27 to Engine 56-3 (Upper Merion). Squad 86 deployed 1000 feet of 5" supply line as well as 150 feet of 3" hose. A relief crew went to the scene around 7:00 pm from Station 86 and all crews returned to Skippack 10:30 pm. On the way home, Squad 86 noticed a field fire in Worcester and extinguished the fire. Crews spent tonight cleaning the hose, equipment , and truck to get everything back in service.
